“TRT” and “peptides” often get mentioned in the same breath for energy and how people feel day to day. They’re related goals — but the two work through different systems and fit different situations. Here’s the honest comparison.
TRT: replacing a hormone
Testosterone therapy (TRT) does what it sounds like — it supplements testosterone in adults who have clinically low levels and consistent symptoms. It’s a well-established, provider-directed treatment that begins with lab work and a symptom review and requires ongoing monitoring, because testosterone touches many systems (mood, energy, libido, red-blood-cell production, fertility). It is not a one-size-fits-all product, and it’s not something to self-direct.
Growth-hormone-axis peptides: prompting your own supply
Peptides like sermorelin and tesamorelin work differently. Instead of replacing a hormone, they signal your own pituitary gland to release more of its own growth hormone — working with the body’s feedback system rather than overriding it. The evidence here varies by peptide: tesamorelin, for instance, is FDA-approved for a specific use, while others have more limited long-term data. So which is for “energy”?
This is where honesty matters: fatigue and low energy have many possible causes — sleep, thyroid, iron, stress, mood, medications, and yes, sometimes hormones. The right move isn’t to pick a therapy off a shelf; it’s to figure out what’s actually driving your symptoms. Sometimes that points to hormone-related care, and sometimes it points somewhere else entirely.
What they have in common
